What's Koundara

Koundara is an Administrative Region (Prefecture) of Republic of Guinea-conakry (West Africa), situated to the Northwest of the country. She is limited at the North by the Republic of Senegal (The Casamance), to the west by the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, to the South by the Administrative Région (Prefecture) of Gaoual and to the East by the Administrative Région (Prefecture) of Mali-Yimbering.

She is composed of seven Arrondissements (Under-Prefecture) that are:

Guingan, Kamabi, Koundara-center Sambaïlo, Sareboïdo, Termessé et Youkounkoun.

HER RELIEF: is characterized by the presence of a mountain chain like a belt dominated by the Mount-Badiar in the middle of the belt that spreads of the North (Sambaïlo) to the west (Sareboïdo) whose whole superior part constitutes the tray of the Badiar, a set of small mounts named "Pellé Ndama" in the Arrondissements (Under Prefecture) of Guingan and Termessé, of the vast plains ricecultivable and gritty zones very favorable to the culture of the peanut.

HER FLORA: Her very rich and varied flora covered of palms, of roniers, of raffias, of big classified forest at the North (The Niokolo-Badiar), to the South (the classified Forest of Ndama) and along the Koliba stream, of the vast plains ricecultuvables and flexible in the Arrondissement (Under-prefecture) of Youkounkoun, Koundara-center, Kamabi (Alkemé), Sareboïdo (Akana) and Sambaïlo (Plains of Missira and Foulamansa), of Bamboos in the zones of Kiffaya and the Bowéses to the South of Kffaya, to the limit with Gaoual.

HER HYDROGRAPHY: rests on the presence of the Koliba stream that makes his limit with the Administrative Region (Prefecture) of Gaoual that waters the plains of Alkemé, of Altou, of Akadasso, of Akana, of Sarekali, of Sintyan Mody, of Diarikounda, the Koulountou stream that is an arm of the Gambia stream and water the forests of the Niokolo-Badiar, the plains of Sintyourou to Koundara-center, the Tyayanga that waters the plains of Missira, Foulamansa and Pakaye, the River Kouré-Nyaki that waters the Forest of the Ndama. This Rivers very rich in freshwater fish of all sort and also in cayman attract a minority of the riparian Inhabitants (the commonly named fishers the Tyouballoses) that make a profession of it and give fresh supplies to the population of Koundara not only but also the adjacent countries (Guinea-Bissau, Gambia and Senegal).

HER FAUNA: sustained by the protection of the classified forests (Niokolo-Badiar) and Firest of the Ndama), let see her wealth and her active variety of the Elephants, Lions, Hyena, Cheetahs, Wolves, Doe, Boars, Chimps, Rhinoceros, Hippos, Monkeys, Buffalos, Panthers etc... to the small reptiles and snakes of all sorts to the birds of all nature encouraging the hunt that is also the preoccupation of a minority thus (the hunters) that give fresh supplies to the populations of Koundara in meat of bush or meat of wild animals.

POPULATION: (Historic and Expansion).
Koundara is a cosmopolitan Region regrouping the Badiarankéses, Coniaguises, Bassarises, Tandases, Boynises, Peulses, Foulakoundases, Diakankéses, Sarakoléses, Tyapises and Mandinkoses that cohabit in perfect harmony. These minority ethnic groups rich in cultures and in arts make a particular seal in this Region (Prefecture) of the North of Guinea encouraging the National Tourism thus in the curiosity to discover the adornment to Indian very rich in color and motives at the Cognaguises and the Bassarises, the parts and session of struggles to frantic dance to the rhythm of the Tom-toms evoking the rigor and the perseverance in the daily life at the Badiarankéses, the adornments, dances and very authentic songs of the initiated Foulakounda girls. It's necessary to note especially that Koundaara was in the center of the birth of the expansion of struggles against the colonial domination.

SOCIAL DOMAIN: is very favorable to the Associations to character of Groupings, of NGO, of Mutual, of Companies thanks to the easy communication quality and to the very open welcome of its population accompanied by a conscience, a courage and a shy will to promote progress in the economic and social development.

HER AGRO-PASTORAL VOCATION: attracts in addition to her autochthonous population, an exodus and a flux of immigrants come from the other Regions of Guinea in search of agricultural domains and of grazings for their prosperity that raises the strength of the population of the day on the day. This affluence agropastorale contributes today to the acceleration of the deforestation and at the arrival of the drought thanks to the archaic practice of agriculture and its methods.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Her economic development remains a very critical factor because since the accession of the Republic of Guinea to the Independence, October 2, 1958, the Region of Koundara is in margin of all development projects that the Governments not only the First Republic but also and especially the Second Republic, put so much in walk on as regards to the road, sanitary Infrastructures (hospitals, clinics. drinking waters), school and of Telecommunications that on the domains of exchange and trade that make Koundara on of the last Regions of Guinea to our days, in spite of the existence of all this important potential Agro-Pastoral, these tourist resources and these considerable human resources.

LOCAL PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE HUMAN RESOURCES:
Koundara is part of the Regions that provides the settings of very high level to the Guinean Administration so much on the technical plan that on the professional plan but the delay of its development is due to the absence of a perfect awarness of its national sons for the promotion of the Associations of non-Governmental nature in order to promote a harmonious development based on the local human and financial means to the picture of the companies or entreprises whose management is assured by some nationals.

As many reasons so that the the girls and sons of Koundara anxious of economic and social progress and conscious of the delay of development that the Region accuses in this domain, organize themselves around the common ideals by massive and motivated Associations to participate decidedly in the economic and social development of their Region. It's in this context that we the Nationals of Koundara in the United States of America became aware and h want to imply ouselves of a participative and inclusive way in search of the ways and means proper to assure the economic and social development of our Region (Prefecture).

In this year 2009, the Association of the Nationals of Koundara and Sympathizers strive to gather all its Nationals living in the United States of America without exception for the implementation of its noble and ambitious program.
